Title: Sewos: A Framework For Semantic Web Operating System

Abstract: The core of our work is to present a SOA-based framework of a web operating system that makes uses of web semantics in its underlying file system. "SEWOS", as it is named, moves user's traditional operational desktop environment into a web browser accessed by user any time anywhere. The usage of semantic web techniques provides better organization, annotation, navigation and searching capabilities. Usage data, user’s personalized settings along with file system ontology are all used to provide user a desktop metaphor and an experience that almost mimics traditional desktop.

Title: Performance Analysis of FIR Filter Design by Using Optimal, Blackman Window and Frequency Sampling Methods

Abstract: Digital filter plays an important role in today’s world of communication and computation. On the other hand to design a digital finite impulse response (FIR) filter satisfying all the required conditions is a challenging one. In this paper, design techniques of low pass FIR filters using Blackman window method, Frequency sampling method and Optimal method are presented. The magnitude responses are demonstrated for the different design techniques of digital FIR filters and those are compared with ideal response curves. In this paper, we have introduced an iterative method to find the optimal solution of optimal FIR filter design. It is shown that in optimal FIR filter design the passband and stopband ripples of response curve depend on the width of transition band. Further, Remez exchange algorithm is applied on optimal method to analyze the response of FIR filters. This shows that the degree of flatness in passband and stop band depend on the weighting factor and width of the transition band. Filter design by using Blackman window and frequency sampling technique, the degree of flatness varies with the length of filter.

Abstract: Today’s I.T. Organization has made huge investments in mainframe-based applications. As a result, these legacy systems contain tremendous hub of knowledge that drive daily business operations. Most of the day-to-day transactions that occur in large organizations are woven with complicacy around these systems, which serve the current demands. With the increasing popularity of Internet, business boundaries have diminished. Every business organization wants to reach the maximum number of customers through the web presence and it is also observed that those who has done this now entertaining whole world. So it is more demanding now to evolve a legacy system over web. This paper produces solutions to various technological challenges including reusing existing logic to support current business process, reusing existing process to reduce costs, reusing existing system design to ensure dependable and reliable solution, reusing existing system’ elements for faster deliver and challenges need to be dealt in evolution of a legacy system over web.

Abstract: Geographical information system (GIS) is a powerful tool in managing and presenting spatial referenced data science it has a lot of geographic functions such as data integration, mapping, overlaying, buffering, projection....etc, but on the contrary it is a limited tool in decision aiding of spatial decision problems. It can't stand alone in taking decision in spatial problem environment. In the same time, decision support system (DSS) is an important aiding tool which supports decision makers to get the best selection among several alternatives and preferences. But also it can’t stand alone in making a decision containing spatial dimension because it’s shortage in managing and treating spatial data. So the need for modern GIS is become essential to extend the functionality of GIS to merge the strength of both GIS and DSS to get a powerful spatial decision support system (SDSS). To achieve this purpose a lot of integration can be done between GIS and artificial neural networks (ANN), fuzzy logic (FL), genetic algorithms (GA), expert systems (ES) and many more. One of the most important integration is the integration between ANN and GIS. By this way GIS will become more intelligent as including modeling and simulation capabilities. This coupling can be used for many applications for the purposes of improved decision-making. This paper suggests a framework for this integration which can be used later as a standard framework.

Title: Tranformation of CPU-based Applications To Leverage on Graphics Processors using CUDA

Abstract: Scientific computation requires a great amount of computing power especially in floating-point operation but a high-end multi-cores processor is currently limited in terms of floating point operation performance and parallelization. Recent technological advancement has made parallel computing technically and financially feasible using Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) developed by NVIDIA. This research focuses on measuring the performance of CUDA and implementing CUDA for a scientific computation involving the process of porting the source code from CPU to GPU using direct integration technique. The ported source code is then optimized by managing the resources to achieve performance gain over CPU. Successful attempt at porting Serpent encryption algorithm and Lattice Boltzmann Method provided up to 7 times throughput performance gain and up to 10 times execution time performance gain respectively over the CPU. Direct integration guideline for porting the source code is then produced based on the two implementations.

Abstract: Web-based Exam Management Systems (EMS) are an effective solution for mass education evaluation. This paper proposed web based online examination system based. This system carries out the examination and auto-grading for students exams. This system facilitates conducting exams, collection of answers, auto marking the submissions and production of reports for the test. It supports many kinds of questions. It is used via Internet and is therefore suitable for both local and remote examination. This system could help lecturers, instructors, teachers and others who are willing to create new exams or edit existing ones as well as students participating in the exams. The system is built using. various open source technologies AJAX, PHP, HTML and MYSQL database are used in this system. An auto-grading module is generalized to enable different exam and question types. The system is tested in the Mansoura university quality assurance center. The test proved the validity of using this kind of web based systems for evaluates students in the institutions with high rate of students

Abstract: E-learning is a useful tool that has contributed in facilitating education for people around the globe. There is a need, however, for making e-learning available to deaf people. This could facilitate teaching and learning for both teachers of the deaf and deaf people. This paper presents an e-Learning System (LS) which offers Arabic Sign Language (ArSL) in correspondence to the text in the learning environment. The system is designed ably for deaf adults for the purpose of their lifelong learning. In the LS, the special needs of deaf learners are satisfied, e.g. bilingual information (Arabic text and Arabic sign language), high level of visualization and interactive and explorative learning. The basic objective of our e-learning system is the support of the equal rights of deaf people for their access to the education and training. Also ddictionaries between Arabic and Sign Language are important parts of learning. It is possible for Deaf to find words as a sign language. Also that paper describes a bilingual sign language dictionary that can help Arab deaf student learn sign language directly from their mother language. As the use of computers becomes more widespread, it has become more convenient to study using computer software and/or the Internet facilities. The proposed dictionary system provides deaf students with an easy means of access using their mother-sign language so they don’t have to overcome the barrier of learning the target-spoken language.

Abstract: As speech processing is one of the emerging fields in signal processing, especially because of the great revolution in cellular technologies. It plays great role in the design of interactive systems like speech-to-text converters. So, speech recognizer is a building block in number of systems like speech-to-text converters design, text-to-speech converters, and person recognition. We have designed and simulated efficient speech recognizer using linear predictive coding (LPC) and implemented various steps like (training phase, efficient speech models and recognition phase) in Matlab and got all speech recognition coefficients/parameters.

Title: Towards a Complete Computer Dental Treatment System

Abstract: This paper introduces the production of 3D virtual clinic to help dentists in their treatment. To achieve this goal, different scientific areas are integrated such as: computer graphics, pattern recognition, computer vision, information technology and finite element machine (FEM). The proposed system includes the following tools; patient information system, automatic 2-D cephalometrics, 3-D cephalometrics, 3-D visualization, surgical planning, 3-D registration, soft tissue simulation, pre and post treatment analysis, etc. Acquisition of the 3D virtual model of the patient is the foundation of this work. The CT slides of the patient’s head (soft and hard tissues) are collected in a DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine) format. These slides are then compiled to build up the patient’s 3D model. Using ray-casting volume rendering technique, a digital computer based 3D replica is built. The theme also includes the detection of defective skeletal and dental areas by applying the appropriate diagnostic procedures. Based upon the diagnostic outcome, the necessary changes are executed; manipulation of the virtual 3D image and evaluation of the final result after rectification will be possible.

Title: Hardware implementation of blind source separation of speech signals using independent component analysis

Abstract: This paper consists of hardware implementation of fast ICA algorithms for mixed speech signals. During experiment we recorded the voice signals of three different people one by one with the help of a single mic. After mixing the incoming signals ICA was applied. The observed results were compared with the incoming voice signals in order to know accuracy of the algorithm. In a second experiment we designed an array of mic where different people were talking at the same time. After low pass filtering, amplification and A/D conversion data was recorded serially in a computer through a microcontroller. Again ICA was applied and results were observed by listening the voice through a headphone. The resultant voice signals were very clear.

However, there is a problem associated with multimedia transmission over wireless networks i.e. packet loss. To achieve desired Quality of Service (QoS) we need to understand packet loss patterns in wireless networks. This paper holds the study of packet loss patterns in multimedia transmission of congested networks over RTP. We use NS2 as simulation tool and wavelet analysis is used to explore the packet loss behavior over wireless networks.

Abstract: This paper presents an investigation on application of metaheuristic approaches to handle the optimization of planting areas with regards to Lining Layout Planning (LLP). Metaheuristic is approximate solution that sacrifice the guarantee of finding an optimal solution. However, it is an appropriate approach to be employed in two basic situations: 1. a problem may not has an exact method because of ambiguities in the problem statement, 2. a problem may has an axact solution but computational cost of finding it may be prohibitive. The optimization startegy in LLP is to optimize a planting area by looking for the best line direction to be assigned into determining blocks with attention to minimize unused space and maximize number of tree. However, there are many possible solutions to be analyzed will eventually spend high time is a challenge. Therefore, the applicabilty of approaches to overcome this problem was investigated and simulated result was reported. We found that the exact solution methods are suitable for LLP with one block but many blocks with weighted consideration will increase time exponentially and metaheuristic approaches are considered as the appropriate technique.

Abstract: In a fully deregulated energy market a number of Transmission System Operators (TSOs) may be involved in a transaction. Losses related to a transaction need to be evaluated in real time, to facilitate the Gencos to supply the losses. This will also enable a TSO to plan the network operation in order to minimize the losses. Evaluation of extent of use of a transmission path by a transaction will enable determination of available transmission capacity (ATC) to accommodate other transactions, and together with its associated losses as the base data, will also address the congestion management issue.
