Title: Preprocessing of Web Usage Data for Application in Prefetching to Reduce Web Latency

Abstract: The Popularity of Web resulted in heavy traffic in the Internet. This intense increase in internet traffic has caused significant increase in the user perceived latency. In order to reduce this effectively. Prefetching techniques are found to be best suitable. Prefetching technique is motivated by the fact that, in general, once a user goes to a Web site; he/she generally browses around for several pages before leaving for another site. Since the user follows hyperlinks upon his/her interests, it is likely that links are not followed uniformly. It is possible to either predict each user’s interest using cookies or mine a consensus of interests (i.e., generally what pages will be requested after the current page) with some confidence from access log files recorded by the Web server. This information not only is valuable for the Web administrator to eliminate uninterested pages, or balance load among the servers, but also can help to improve Web-browsing time. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive preprocessing methodology as a prerequisite and first stage for Prefetching application, which has four steps: Data Cleaning, Identification of users & Sessions, and finally the Data Formatting and Summarization. An attempt is made to reduce the quantity of the WUD and thereby improve the quality of WUD for effective use in Prefetching application. Several heuristics have been proposed for cleaning the WUD which is then aggregated and recorded in the relational data model. To validate the efficiency of our preprocessing methodology, several experiments were conducted log files on three different web sites: Academic, Research, Commercial and the results shows that our methodology reduces the Web access log files size down to 72-83% of the initial size and offer richer logs that are structured for application in Prefetching.

Title: An Enhanced ATM Security System Using Multimodal Biometric Strategy

Abstract: This paper presents a new biometric identification and authentication schema in relation to payment systems and ATMs. The financial sector has used ATMs as a means to make payment and offer financial services for its clients. But, security is a major issue in accessing these machines. Improving the performance of individual matchers in the aforementioned situation may not be effective. Multi-biometric systems are used to overcome this problem by providing multiple pieces of evidence of the same identity. In this paper, we have proposed the development of a fingerprint and iris fusion system which utilizes a Minutiae Matcher for fingerprint and Hamming Distance Matcher for iris with matching score level. It has been found that the proposed multimodal technique using threshold of 0.6 gave the best results. It has an accuracy of 96.67%, FAR of 0%, FRR of 5%, and run time of 32 seconds.

Abstract: Online social networking provides users with powerful means of sharing, organizing, and finding content and contacts. The utility and rapid development of these sites provides an urge to study the characteristics and the utilization of online social networks at large scale. Understanding this analysis is important, in order to improve the current systems and to design new applications for online social networks. This article presents a user’s statistic study and analysis of the structure of social networks Facebook and Whatsapp, considering that Facebook’s $19 billion buying Whatsapp making it the company's largest acquisition. Whatsapp a company having only 55 employees is the costliest buy ever in the software industry. The mission of this buy was to make the world more connected. Our data set contains over 2500 users using Whatsapp and Facebook, their need for usage of these networks, their satisfaction of needs through these social networks, the users who use these networks on the go. Further it explores the evolution of the social networks with deep analysis.

Title: Different Approaches to Grounding Resistance Calculation for Thin Wire Structures at Low Frequency Energization

Abstract: The present paper deals with the calculation of grounding resistance of an electrode composed of thin wires, that we consider here as perfect electric conductors (PEC) e.g. with null internal resistance, when buried in a soil of uniform resistivity. The potential profile at the ground surface is also calculated when the electrode is energized with low frequency current. The classic treatment by using leakage currents, called Charge Simulated Method (CSM), is compared with that using a set of steady currents along the axis of the wires, here called the Longitudinal Currents Method (LCM), to solve the Maxwell equations. The method of moments is applied to obtain a numerical approximation of the solution by using rectangular basis functions. Both methods are applied to two types of electrodes and the results are also compared with those obtained using a thirth approach, the Average Potential Method (APM), later described in the text. From the analysis performed, we can estimate a value of the error in the determination of grounding resistance as a function of the number of segments in which the electrodes are divided.

Title: An Efficient Micro-Hydroelectric Scheme for Low Heads

Abstract: This paper presents a design of a hydroelectric scheme specially proposed for low head applications. After carefully studying the hydrology and geographical conditions of the site, turbine is designed for the heads of 3 to 10 meters obtainable from streams and irrigation channels. The low efficiency already existing hydroelectric scheme used is addressed and compared with the existing scheme. Using the standard equations, trash rack, penstock & turbine is designed thus keeping the power losses as low as 4%. Hence finally an electrical power of 25kW is produced, suitable to run a farm in villages where electricity supply is not available and where cost of transmission and distribution is high. The location where it has been installed and tested is village Kandar, Tehsil Mathra, Peshawar. The present project is compared with the existing and is much cost-effective and highly efficient.
